First Visit to the Dentist

This morning Noah visited the dentist for the first time.

I prepped him as much as possible, but really, he didn't know what to expect.

He definitely did not expect there to be so many toys and games, but didn't mind at all. Where was a dentist like this when I was a kid?

There were definitely some moments when he was tenative, but Noah was completely cooperative the whole time, even for x-rays.

It helped that he got to wear sunglasses to block out the bright light and there was a movie playing on the ceiling.  And, that from the second we walked in the door, everyone was incredibly inviting and patient.

Dr. Ryan reported that Noah's teeth look great!  His 19 teeth are cavity free, and that twentieth tooth that STILL hasn't come in may finally poke through soon.

Noah left with a new McQueen toothbrush, a balloon and a promise from Dr. Ryan that if he quits biting his fingernails he can choose a toy from her box the next time he comes.  Our first visit was a success!

Noah great job and very brave. It must be so terrifying for kids. Sounds like the dental office did a great job.

Congratulations! Not only did Noah displayed such bravery, he has a clean set of teeth! The doctor must be really happy with him, and you must be really proud. Yeah, I agree with you. I wish we had these kinds of distractions when we had our dental appointments during childhood.

Nice to know that Noah's first time visiting the dentist went so smoothly. Not everyone is as lucky as you guys are. How the dentist communicates with Noah is a huge factor in making him feel comfortable and trust that the procedures are necessary to keep a clean and sparkling set of chompers. Hehe!

Wow! It doesn't look like it was the first time he ever visited a dentist! He didn’t even mind what the staff were going to do to his teeth. Haha! I guess the playful ambiance of the clinic made it easy for him to settle.

I have been searching for a dentist for such a long time, I almost gave up home. I broke a tooth last week and was forced to choose a local one on my insurance. The dentist I settled on was one of the kindest men I have ever met. I walked out of there feeling like I just made a new friend for life, this guy rocks.

The first visit is a tough one. Something fun that has actually become a tradition in my family is a picture at the first dentist appointment. My grandfather's parents took a picture of him at his first dentist appointment and then he did the same for my mother who did the same for me and I did the exact same.
